| Menopausal fallopian tube. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the lining of a fallopian tube of a 48 year old menopausal woman. The lining's irregular folds are seen. Some of the underlying layer of collagen fibres (yellow) has been exposed. This is due to the technique used rather than being a natural product of ageing. The fallopian tubes (oviducts) are the muscular tubes through which ova (eggs) pass from the ovaries to the uterus. The menopause is the end of the fertile period of a woman's life.
