Heart. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of the left side of the healthy heart of a 38-year-old. The front of the chest cavity is at left. This profile view shows the branched pulmonary artery at top right and the left branch of the coronary arteries running along the edge of the heart (centre left). The pulmonary artery takes deoxygenated blood to the lungs to be exposed to oxygen from inhaled air. The coronary arteries form a network over the surface of the heart and supply it with oxygenated blood. The heart beats continuously to supply blood to the rest of the body,so it needs constant oxygen. Any blockage of these arteries will interrupt the oxygen supply and trigger a heart attack | |
