| MODEL RELEASED. Measuring blood pressure. Nurse measuring a 68-year-old woman's blood pressure using a sphygmomanometer. The stethoscope is used to listen to blood flow through the patient's arm. The inflated cuff (black) temporarily cuts off the blood flow. As it is deflated,pulsing blood flow resumes and a reading of systolic pressure is taken using the dial (lower centre). Further deflation of the cuff allows smooth blood flow and the diastolic pressure is recorded. Blood pressure is an important measure of health. This patient is at home.
