MODEL RELEASED. Cholecystectomy. Surgeons perform a gallbladder removal operation (cholecystectomy),using a minimally-invasive laparoscope technique. A laparoscope (held by surgeon at right) contains a camera which provides a view of the gallbladder on the TV screen (upper centre). This view allows other surgeons to guide surgical instruments to the site, for example a drainage tube and a laser emitter to cut tissue. "Keyhole" surgery of this kind requires small incisions only,to remove the gallbladder. Cholecystectomy is performed to treat gallstones and severe inflammation of the gallbladder.
