MODEL RELEASED. Heart surgery chest scar on a 67-year-old man who has undergone a coronary artery bypass operation. The operation involved making this long incision and then opening up the chest cavity by breaking the sternum (central bone of ribcage),to access the heart underneath. A vein was taken from the patient's leg and used to bypass a blockage in a coronary artery of the heart. These coronary arteries supply oxygenated blood to the heart, and blockages can cause angina pectoris (heart pain) or a heart attack. Photographed 2 weeks after the operation | |
