MODEL RELEASED. Mouth ulcers. 79-year-old man with large mouth ulcers caused by poor dental hygiene and myelodysplasia. Myelodysplasia is a pre-cancerous bone marrow disorder that can take a variety of forms and often develops into an aggressive (acute) form of leukaemia. In myelodysplasia,the stem cells in bone marrow do not properly develop into mature blood cells. This can lead to spontaneous bleeding and infection,as the white blood cells of the immune system are not properly produced. Treatment includes blood transfusions and transplantation of bone marrow,along with chemotherapy
