Simulated heart attack. Image 2 of 2. Computer simulation of the electrical activity of the heart during a heart attack. This image shows a chaotic pattern of electrical activity called ventricular fibrillation. The normal smooth wave of electrical activity (red) should have passed from upper left to lower right, causing unactivated heart muscle (blue) to contract and send blood around the body. The abnormal disruption is typical of a heart attack (myocardial infarction). A starting pulse of electrical activity is shown in image M172/447. Simulation results were presented in January 2002 by Dr Richard Clayton, leader of the team from Leeds University,UK,that developed the model | |
