| Secondary bone cancer. Coloured gamma scan of metastatic cancer tumours (white) in the thigh bone of a woman with ovarian cancer. This image was made with a gamma camera,which detects gamma rays emitted by a radioactive tracer that is injected into the body and concentrates in bone. Metastases (secondary tumours) absorb the tracer in greater amounts than normal bone and show up as hot spots on the image. The technique allows the patient to be screened for secondary cancer after treatment for the primary cancer.
