This is a type of radiation detector used to isolate radioactively labelled cancer cells. Here,a malignant (cancerous) tumour is being located so that it can be fully excised from the breast. Metal retractors (upper right) are holding back the skin. During this surgery,tumours are being removed from the breast and axillary (underarm) lymph nodes as part of a wide local excision (WLE) operation.
