Aspergillosis. Coloured X-ray of the lungs (black) of a patient with pulmonary aspergillosis,a disease of the lungs caused by fungi of the genus Aspergillus. The grainy areas within the lung are the fungi,a common mould found on decaying vegetation and stored grains. The fungus is harmless to most people but can cause allergic reactions,especially in asthma sufferers,or infections in those with a weakened immune system or other lung condition. Symptoms include fever,cough,chest pain and breathlessness. Treatment for allergic aspergillosis is with steroids. Infections are treated with antifungal drugs,but the prognosis is poor
