Carlos Frenk,Mexican-born cosmologist. He is director of the Institute of Computational Cosmology at Durham University,UK. Behind him are the main processing units of the Cosmology Machine,a massive supercomputer that Frenk's team are using to model the evolution of the Universe. By simulating the creation of artificial universes based on astronomical data,Professor Frenk hopes to re-construct the entire evolution of the Universe, from the Big Bang to the present day. The supercomputer is built of 152 processors and can perform over 456 billion calculations per second. Photographed in the Physics Department of the University of Durham | |
