MODEL RELEASED. DNA research. Dr Yen Choo uses a multi-channel pipette to fill a multi-well sample tray with biological samples during DNA research. Choo is part of a DNA research team led by Sir Aaron Klug at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge,England. This team is using proteins known as zinc fingers, which can switch genes off. They have engineered a complex zinc finger molecule that switches off a gene on DNA which causes leukaemia. Leukaemia is a blood cancer in which white blood cells multiply out of control. This DNA research with zinc fingers may thus become a powerful method of gene therapy.
