Desert vegetation. Yucca plants,Yucca sp.,growing in the desert sand. Yucca plants can grow at up to 30 centimetres a year to keep their leaves above the shifting sands of the desert, eventually reaching a height of between 2 and 9 metres. Yuccas are stiff-leaved,evergreen shrubs and trees which are native to the Americas. The roots of some species yield a fatty substance used in some countries as a soap. The fibrous leaves of some species are used to make rope or as a padding material in cushions. Photographed at the White Sands National Monument in New Mexico,United States of America. The yucca flower is used as a symbol for New Mexico | |
