Inuit hunter. Inuit hunter dragging a freshly killed seal across the ice. He is wearing trousers made from polar bear skin and boots made from seal skin. Inuit people mostly hunt for ringed or bearded seals. The most common method is to lie in wait for a seal to appear from its breathing hole in the ice. The hunter uses a rifle shielded by a white blind and crawls along the ice until he is close enough to shoot. Melting ice and receding glaciers caused by global warming is altering the subsistence lifestyle of many Inuit people and the animals they hunt. Photographed in Qaanaaq,Greenland,in 2006 | |
