Peat bog fire. Mars aircraft dropping water on a fire in a raised peat bog. Peat bog fires often burn below the ground making them particularly difficult to extinguish. They produce heavy acrid smoke and may smolder for many years. Bog fires are part of the natural bog ecosystem,however,and after a fire the area is re-colonised by new plants.
