Repairing power lines after hurricane Katrina. These technicians are working on the main street of Long Beach,Mississippi,USA,on 2nd September 2005,four days after Katrina hit the region. Katrina was a category four hurricane when it hit the Gulf of Mexico coast of the USA on 29th August. In Long Beach some 90% of buildings were destroyed,power and telephone lines were cut,and mobile telephone networks and running water were cut off. Worst affected,though,was the low- lying port city of New Orleans,Louisiana. Its levee flood defences failed,leaving 80% of the city under water.
