Skeletal muscle cells, fluorescence light micrograph. This muscle type is found in the arms and legs and other skeletal muscles, where it is responsible for voluntary muscle movements such as walking, talking and lifting. Fluorescent markers have been used to highlight proteins in the cytoskeleton (red and green) and cell nuclei (blue). The proteins stained here are: actin (red) and desmin (green) to show the intermediate filaments of the cytoskeleton. These intermediate filaments are essential for the structural integrity and function of muscle. Cell nuclei have been stained with DAPI. This sample is from rabbit tissue | |
