| Stentor coeruleus,a large,trumpet-shaped ciliates,commonly found in freshwater ponds,usually attached with the posterior end to vegetation or other surfaces. The image shows the anterior end of the cell with a conspicuous peristomial field with a system of adoral membranelles spiraling clockwise to the cytostome. Inside the body of the ciliate there are several food vacuoles with green algae and diatoms. The is colored by violet pigmentation granules located in the pellicula.
