Exercise ECG. A man undergoing exercise testing on a treadmill, whilst an electrocardiograph (ECG) records and prints out the electrical activity of his heart. Various electrodes taped over his chest and back are connected to the ECG machine in the foreground. This technique is used in the diagnosis of cardiac ischaemia, the restriction in the heart's blood supply which occurs in coronary artery disease, and also for detecting abnormal heart rhythms. Typical patients might be suffering from angina (pain in the chest on exercising) or being assessed in the weeks following a heart attack | |
