Annularia is an extinct plant living during a large part of the Carboniferous period (360 to 300 million years ago) The name Annularia is a form taxon, that is a name given on the basis of morphology, which in the case of Annularia is the radiating structure the leaves are set in. It is a large genus of pteridophytic plants of the order Equisetales and the basal sheaths of the leaf whorls form the characteristic annuli. They much resemble the leaves of Calamites and their stems were also Calamites-like. The individual leaves in this variety are pointed, other Annularia have more rounded leaves (see 214050072). Provenance is Upper Carboniferous deposits near Piesberg,Germany. Acual length of branches is 24 cm | |
