Owens lake,California,USA. Over 100 years ago,the lake was drained by the Owens river aqueduct to supply water to growing cities such as Los Angeles. The lake was completely dried up by 1936. Since then, the dry alkaline sediment of the lake has caused sandstorms of carcinogenic particles that pose a health hazard to surrounding areas. In an effort to mitigate the damage,a system of pipes and pumps to re-water part of the lake has been installed | |
