This is an immature chloroplast that forms when a seed is germinated in darkness. Chloroplasts are the cell organelles that convert sunlight to energy. The etioplast's membranes have formed a crystalline array,instead of the usual stacks of grana seen in a mature chloroplast,known as a prolamellar body. Normal chloroplast structure is generated from an etioplast within a few hours of the etiolated plant being exposed to light
