Caduceus with DNA. Computer artwork of the Caduceus symbol entwined by a strand of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). The caduceus is the traditional symbol of the Greek god Hermes, and features two snakes around a winged staff. It is often confused with the rod of Asclepius medical symbol, which has no wings and only one snake. In their logos, professional medical associations mainly use the rod of Asclepius, while commercial organisations use the caduceus. Confusion over the two symbols arose when the caduceus was adopted as a logo by the Medical Department of the United States Army in 1902 | |
