Near centre (white) is the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II,the first king of a unified Italy. It was inaugurated in 1911 and completed in 1935. At bottom right is the Pantheon (domed temple),dating from the 5th century BC. At top right is a bend of the River Tiber. Image data obtained on 11 September 2009. The US-operated GeoEye-1 satellite was launched in September 2008,and orbits at a height of 680 kilometres. It is the world's highest resolution commercial Earth-imaging satellite
