Blood pressure measurement. Sphygmomanometer being used to measure a patient's blood pressure. An inflatable cuff has been placed around the patient's upper arm,and the dial (centre) records the pressure in the cuff. The cuff is inflated until it cuts off the blood flow,and is then slowly deflated while using a stethoscope to listen to the patient's elbow pulse. When pulsing blood flow resumes,the reading is showing systolic pressure. When smooth blood flow resumes,the reading is of dystolic pressure. Photographed in Belgium
