| Seal louse (Echinophthirius horridus),coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This ectoparasite (external parasite) feeds on the blood of seals,but only when the seals are on land. It has a thicker than usual cuticle covering its exoskeleton and is able to trap air around its body so that it can breath while the seal is in the water.
