Echus Chasma,Mars, satellite image. North is at top. This is a perspective stereo-colour image of a side canyon in the outflow region of Echus Chasma. It is thought that ancient groundwater and lava outflows shaped and formed Echus Chasma and its side canyons. This area is tens of kilometres across and the canyon floor is up to four kilometres below the highlands. The image data is from the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board the European Space Agency's (ESA) Mars Express Orbiter | |
