Harvesting spider silk. Golden silk orb weaver (Nephila sp.) spiders attached by the abdomen to a rack so that their silk can be harvested. The silk is attached to a wire which is coiled by a small motor. This draws the silk from the spiders. The process produces approximately 180 metre of silk an hour per spider.
