From a point in space called the second Lagrangian point (L2),its 3.5-metre diameter mirror will collect long-wavelength infrared radiation from some of the coolest and most distant objects in the Universe. This mission was launched on 14 May 2009,together with the Planck space observatory. After launch,the two spacecraft separated to carry out their missions
