Lung cancer cell,coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM). This cell has the typical morphology of a cancer cell. The nucleus (red) is greatly enlarged and multilobed,the cytoplasm (brown) is complex and highly active,and there are many projections (surface blebs and microvilli) coming off the cell wall. The most common cause of lung cancer is cigarette smoke. Magnification: x5000 when printed at 10 centimetres wide
