MODEL RELEASED. Osteoarthritis. Knees of a 64-year-old man suffering from osteoarthritis. The scar on the right knee (left) is due to a total knee replacement to correct the condition. The left is still to be done. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disorder usually caused by mechanical wear and tear of the affected joint. The joint loses its smooth cartilage lining causing the bones to rub against each other,and leading to pain,swelling,stiffness and deformity. Treatment involves reducing the symptoms with painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs. In severe cases,the patient may undergo surgery to replace the affected joint
