Ovary tissue. Light micrograph of a transverse section through a mammalian ovary. The ovary has been injected with a red dye to highlight the blood vessels. The main blood vessels of the ovary are concentrated in its centre (upper frame),whilst smaller blood vessels take blood to the cortex (across bottom) where oocytes in follicles (round transparent circles) are developing. When mature,they will be released as eggs (ova). Magnification: x36 when printed at 10 centimetres across
