| Unpollinated poppy (image 1 of 3). Flowering parts of the shirley poppy (Papaver rhoeas) before pollination. At centre is the female reproductive organ,the capsule (green). The yellow segments on the surface of the capsule are the stigmatic surfaces where pollination occurs. At the base of the capsule are the male reproductive organs,the anthers,which produce pollen grains containing the male gametes. Here the anthers are full of yellow pollen grains.
