False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a no. of highly-curved forms of the bacterium Legionella pneumophila,the cause of Legionnaire's disease,a usually fatal form of lobar pneumonia. Members of the gram negative species are small & elongated,with a double membrane cell envelope.
